Freight Forwarding FAQ — Shipping from China

1. What is the difference between FCL and LCL?

FCL (Full Container Load) means you rent the whole container; LCL (Less than Container Load) means your goods share a container with others. FCL is cheaper per unit for large volumes; LCL suits small shipments with no minimum.

2. What does DDP mean?

DDP (Delivered Duty Paid) means the forwarder pays import duties and handles customs clearance, so the goods arrive at your door with no extra cost. Ideal for buyers who want a fixed landed price.

3. How long does sea freight from China take?

Typically 15–35 days depending on the route (e.g. to US West Coast ~18 days, to Europe ~30 days). LCL adds a few days for consolidation and deconsolidation.

4. How long does air freight take?

Usually 1–5 days door-to-airport, plus 1–2 days for customs and last-mile delivery.

5. How long does China–Europe rail take?

Around 16–22 days, a good middle ground between sea (slow/cheap) and air (fast/expensive).

6. What documents do I need for customs clearance?

Commercial invoice, packing list, bill of lading / air waybill, and sometimes a certificate of origin. We prepare and review them for you.

7. Is my shipment insured?

Basic carrier liability is limited. We recommend cargo insurance (usually 0.3%–0.5% of value) for full coverage — just ask when booking.

8. How can I track my shipment?

9. How is freight charged — gross or volume weight?

Air freight is charged on the greater of actual or volumetric weight; sea freight on container size or CBM (for LCL). We always quote the lower applicable basis.

10. What is the minimum for LCL / consolidation?

There is no strict minimum — even 0.5 CBM can be shipped via LCL. Below that, courier or express may be more practical.

11. Which goods are restricted or prohibited?

Items like batteries, liquids, powders and branded counterfeits need special handling or are restricted. Tell us your product and we confirm compliance.

12. Do you handle Amazon FBA shipments?

13. Can you pick up from my supplier’s factory?

Yes. We arrange inland trucking from any Chinese city to the port of loading as part of door-to-door service.
